In Lauterbrunnen for a snow experience? Here is an advent calendar of winter wonders to explore on foot.
 
Advent calendars have their roots in the 19th century, when German Protestants started taking creative steps to mark the days leading up to Christmas, like ticking off chalk marks on walls or doors and lighting candles. Some people still make their own and of course there are many Chocolate filled varieties in the shops.

1. See Staubach falls from seat in Graveyard
2. From Schilthorn Bahn cable car station, walk to the base of the spectacular Mürrenbach Waterfall
3. Walk to Stechelberg and veer left on the track to get closer to the Schmadribach waterfalls in the rear valley.
4. From Stechelberg of over the bridge to the EWL building and enjoy the buzy junction of the Weiße Lütchine and Sefeine Rivers
5. Walk along the road from the village past the Staubbach Falls to buy some local cheese at one of the dairies
6. Take the train to Kleine Scheidegg for a magic veiw and eat some sizzling Wurst und onions
7. Walk from behind Lauterbrunnen train station up towards Wengen for a beautiful valley view
8. Enjoy coffee and a sweet treat at a village Café
9. Walk to the Heliport to watch Air Glaciers Helicopters in action
10. Sit on a bench in the valley and listen for ice cracks from the waterfalls
11. Look at the Weiße Lütchine as it rushes past the Museum now it has gathered more water through the valley
12. Walk along the Weiße Lütchine below the church to the covered bridge to enjoy a different perspective. A seat there lets you enjoy the waterfalls on the other side of the valley.
13. Hire some snow shoes to be able to walk further. They open up a whole new white wonderworld.
14. Take a warm swim at the Mürren Sports Centre.
15. In Wengen walk up to the Falkon Hotel and go behind it to the church and enjoy a great view from the seat
16. In Wengen walk left through the main street and walk to the view out by the white church
17. Enjoy a local meal of Rösti in a restaurant and be sure to include the “Spiegel Ei” or freid egg to be traditional
18. Take the cable car from Wengen to Männlichen and enjoy a Special coffee at the Berghouse
19. Take a day trip to the Jungfrau Joch Snowy Winter world of UNESCO glaciers
20. The Lauterbrunnen Ski bus is free in winter, so take a ride to Stechelberg and back
21. Buy some spiced Christmas biscuits that are only baked at Christmas time
22. Find the mega rock across from the Tourist Office and learn about glacial valley.
23. Get close to the mega sized Church bell and read how old it is
24. Find the Sundial on the Church – is it time for Christmas?
25. Enjoy the Christmas Day Church service to celebrate Jesus’ birth
