Last year the journey “In the Footsteps of the Capuchins” event made this walk into the spiritual and cultural world of the 17th-century friars who once travelled these same paths. From the founding of the Capuchin monastery in Sarnen in 1642, the monks became known as approachable, practical men of faith with a closeness to ordinary people. They crossed passes and valleys to preach, offer confession, bless homes and livestock, and bring comfort to remote Alpine communities. Walking this route invites the imagination of how those friars in their brown robes, knotted rope belt and pointed hoods, moved steadily through forests and over high pastures to reach the faithful. Leading from Sarnen toward the historic Brünig Pass and onward into the Bernese Oberland, the route finishes in the dramatic valley of Lauterbrunnen. Experiencing lakeside paths, woodland trails, steady ascents, open alpine meadows, and sweeping mountain views it was something unique. Here are the contact details as it might be hosted again. https://kapuzinerwanderung.ch Email: [email protected] Photos:
